Sponsorship Journey: Sarah's Story
Sarah and her family have been a big part of our BU family since the very beginning. We are excited to share with you a small part of her sponsorship journey and the impact it has had on her! If you are considering child sponsorship, click here to read stories from each child in our program.
1.) Why did you decide to sponsor a child(ren) through Beyond Uganda?
On my first trip to Africa in 2011, I saw the need and heard God speak clearly to my heart to join Him where He was working. I knew Ben and Capulan Gurrola and their hearts cry was the same. I know the money and letters we send to our sponsored children change their lives forever and give them a hope that is real. Yes, their medical needs are met as well as their educational needs for the first time but it’s more than that. Their hearts are forever changed by the light and hope only God can give. Our sponsored children SHINE. They have a hope and a heart that is being restored from the pain they have endured and you can see it in their smiles. I’ve seen it first hand and it’s a privilege to be apart of their lives.
2.) Why is child sponsorship important in the lives of the children? How have the children you sponsor grown and changed since being a part of BU?
Child sponsorship gives children a chance for a future they would never be able to have on their own. Their medical and physical needs are met and almost immediately you see their physical appearance change. They grow and and they are no longer malnourished or suffering from diseases due to un-clean water. The beautiful part of this growth is that it also includes spiritual growth and the healing that can only come from God. They are mentored, loved and have godly leaders from the project sites speaking truth and love into their hearts and minds. The transformation I’ve seen in our 3 sponsored children has been miraculous. They each come from broken, painful backgrounds but through the life-giving gift of sponsorship their lives are full of beauty, joy, hope, friendships and a future.
3.) How does child sponsorship affect you and your family?
Child sponsorship has given more to our family than we could ever give back. It has become a shared passion for our family. We truly see our three sponsored children as our own family members. We love them, pray for them, visit them and know we will always be apart of their lives. It has been so special to share this experience with our children and watch them grow up and want to be apart of Beyond Uganda.
4.) What do you want other sponsors to know?
You matter. Your monthly sponsorship matters. Your prayers for your sponsored child matter. Your letters to them matter, they are treasures to them. You are changing your child’s life forever in Jesus name. Your child needs YOU. Consider joining a Beyond Uganda team trip and seeing first hand the difference child sponsorship makes.
